INVSN – INVSN

INVSN

Swedish rockers INVSN have announced their new self-titled English debut via Razor & Tie, due out September 24th.  INVSN is Dennis Lyxzén (Refused, The (International) Noise Conspiracy) along with musicians Andre Sandström (DS-13), Sara Almgren (The (International) Noise Conspiracy), Richard Österman, and Anders Stenberg (Lykke Li, Deportees). INVSN have been making a name for themselves overseas for a couple of years now, but the upcoming album is their first foray into the English language.

INVSN takes obvious influences from numerous legendary hitmakers such as The Strokes, Metric, and Billy Idol, all combined to make one breathtaking genre-mixing debut.  While The Strokes and Metric’s influence is heard throughout the album, songs like “Down In The Shadows,” “The Promise,” and “God Has Left Us Stranded” are overwhelmingly 80’s (not that you’ll hear me complaining) and provide some of the albums richest lyrical content. They veer away from the 80’s on outstanding tracks like “It’s All Coming Back,” which is eerily reminiscent to The Killers in their glory days, littered with powerful lyrics, controlled vocals, and perfectly-synched percussion.  One last noteworthy track is the unusually toned-down, “Hate,” which closes out the record on a muted, but still straightforward note.  “Hate,” like most of the other tracks, provides a great look into the songwriters head, with lyrics like “Hats off to hatred / I’m not afraid / Hats off to hatred / That made me this way.”

Over all, INVSN is a fantastic album for lovers of multiple genres, and manages to pay tribute to the greats without sounding like a total knock-off. You can pick up INVSN September 24th, and/or see them on tour with Minus The Bear starting October 10th.
